I had a big time last night at the Modern Atlanta 2011 Design Is Human Launch Party. The key words are "party, design and party." You need to check the MA11 schedule. There is plenty to do all of it easy and most of it free. There are 6 things to today, Wednesday, June 8.
Last night, architects, builders, design lovers, and party lovers enjoyed 360 degree views from the 9th floor of Peatchtree Pointe.
It was hazy but we had a knockout view. You are looking up West Peachtree, due south. Peachtree Street takes a jog to the left at Pershing Point. As familiar as I am with the skyline, this angle is new to me.
The best thing about blogging is meeting people. This is Vivian Bencich principal, interior designer at square feet studio. We met last year in their studio in Inman Alley during the MA10 studio crawl. She's a fellow Tech alum.
I met Miami photographer/artist Prescott McDonald. His exhibit, "Nigeria: Lost Boys Project" is stunning and magically lit.
Joe Dreher introduced me to fellow Tech alumni Chris Higgins. Turns out that Chris and I have been attending the same architecture events at Georgia Tech.
Yoga photography demonstration by landscape architect John Howard (Howard Design Studio). If John is there, you know you are in the right place. This is a 4-fer: John Howard photographing projections by Joe Dreher, in a vignette by Michael Habachy, (Habachy Designs) on a white AstroTurf shag!
Here are the Dencity Design folks. We're touring their studio tonight during the studio crawl.
The materials wall.
If you don't fall in love with carved chair at the SCAD exhibit, I just don't know what to say.
My eye wanders does yours? Robert Tretsch put together the modern side of Harrison Design Associates. This stuck me: Two prominent Georgians in one picture. Truett and Bill are accidentally co-marketing on Peachtree.
Mary White (right) introduced me to Interior Designer Allison Hyer of Hyer Creative. Allison worked with musician Zac Brown on a 30,000 sq. ft space. You can hear Allison discuss it on WMLB's and Gene Kansas' Sidewalk Radio. As with John Howard, if you see Mary, you are probably in the right place.
Folks gathered about 9 P.M. for a tiny to-do.
You'll be able to spot Elayne DeLeo, cofounder of Modern Atlanta, from this picture. Sang Hwa Lee thanks the crowd. His partner at Manifesto, Jeeyong An looks on.
Three great things to do today, Wednesday, June 8, 2011. These times are a bit flexible. I'm going to do what I can:
Don't forget the MA’ology “AFRICA” and CARE Fundraiser on Friday. It's a fashion show. Your architecture tourist blogger host doesn't get to see live fashion shows. This is from MA10:
